Cantilever House

Set alongside the Wairarapa Stream in Christchurch, this striking residence was designed by O’Neil Architecture. Featuring large openings, a cantilevered upper floor, and a basement carpark, the project required innovative and challenging design solutions. Due to the high water table, screw piles and a deep raft foundation were essential to prevent the structure from becoming buoyant—a design consideration quite unique to a residential build.
